Library Cards
Who can get a library card, how to apply, and how to use your library card:
Library cards will be issued free of charge to residents of Swaledale and surrounding townships. Proof of identity and proof of current address is requested.
Service will not be denied or abridged because of religious, racial, social, economic, or political status; or because of mental, emotional, physical condition, age or sexual orientation.
The use of the library may be denied for due cause. Such cause may be failure to return library materials or failure to to pay penalties, destruction of library property, disturbance of other patrons, or any other illegal, disruptive, or objectionable conduct on library premises.
To apply for a card, you must request an application from the librarian, minors must have a parent or guardian fill out the application for them. Please offer your drivers license or some other form of identification and proof of residence to the librarian at this time.
When checking out materials from our library, please present your card to the librarian at the time of check out.
Books are checked out for 3 weeks.
Magazines are checked out for 1 week.
DVD's and video's are checked out for 1 week.
Items may be returned to the library in the return box by the librarians desk or put in the white return box outside our front door.
Materials may be renewed in person or by telephone. If your items are new to the library, renewal may be denied.
The Swaledale Public Library does not fine for overdue material, in return we ask our members to be responsible in returning their material.
We try to provide a variety of material for our members, but if we don't have what you are looking for on our shelves, please ask the librarian to find your material from another library. It normally takes 3-5 days to receive material on loan. We'll be happy to help your find what you want.If there is a specific item you were looking for that is checked out, just let the librarian know and we'll put a reserve on it for you. When it comes in we'll call you. See Interlibrary Loans.
We encourage children of all ages to use the library for homework recreational reading, and program attendance. The library staff realizes that the library will be noisier at busy times and that children by nature can cause much commotion. However, children (whether with parents or not) who are being continually disruptive will be given a warning that he/she must settle down or they will be asked to leave the library. If after a second warning the child continues to be disruptive, he/she will be asked to leave the library. If the child needs to contact a parent, they may do so and then wait with a staff person until the parent arrives
The possession of a library card obligates patrons to return library materials in a timely fashion. If library materials are lost or damaged, it is the patrons responsibility to replace or pay for the lost or damaged materials. If your library card is lost or stolen, we will replace the card one time free of charge, however frequent replacement may require a charge for your library card.We welcome children in the library and hope they find our library a great place to visit; however, our staff is not expected to assume responsibility for the care of unsupervised children in the library.
